POSITION SUMMARY: Prepare civil engineering plans for existing and future Republic Services facilities. Duties and responsibilities include preparation of engineering calculations and plans, technical review of third-party plans, cost-benefit analysis, review of closure/post closure cost estimations, and project management for complex capital investments undertaken by Republic Services operating facilities.
Develops engineering plans for landfill liner systems and surface impoundments in concert with site constraints, regulatory provisions, and input provided by management teams.
Coordinates and reviews secondary design components prepared by third parties, as needed.
Manages complex construction projects including engineering review, development of bid packages, contractor selection and contract development/management.
Reviews landfill as-built surveys at select sites, including volume surveys and compaction optimization.
Provides process engineering support and associated monitoring and evaluation of waste treatment processes.
Identifies potential design or operational innovations and efficiencies.
Modifies or reviews the engineered storm water management controls for each site.
Ensures safe, compliant and efficient design and operation of applicable leachate collection and detection systems.
Ensures systems are designed and constructed in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
Assists in business acquisitions and technology evaluation.
Develops and reviews closure and post-closure plans and estimation of closure costs at active and closed sites.
Assists in the preparation of cost-benefit analysis for technological improvements or reagent alternatives, as needed.
Assists in the development of master site plans for long-term operational considerations.
Performs other, related duties as assigned.
Knowledge of basic computer skills and Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint is essential.
Knowledge of AutoCAD, Slope/W, and Mapping Software
Knowledge of complex regulations specific to the environmental waste industry.

Ability to anticipate business needs and plan accordingly to ensure that equipment, employee and fiscal resources are utilized in the most efficient manner.
High level of analytical skill to develop a range of possible solutions to address a wide range of issues.

Good financial management and plan skills, ability to understand financial terms, budgets, tables, and reports.
Ability to develop realistic, comprehensive plans to make efficient use of resources.
Knowledgeable of current industrial safety practices and industrial hygiene.
Must be detail oriented and possess technical aptitude.
Ability to work under pressure, exercise independent judgment and select effective course of action while controlling resources and expenditures.
Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field.
Knowledge and understanding of governmental and waste regulations, typically gained through two or more years or progressively responsible experience.
Two (2) to Five (5) years progressive engineering experience.
Valid driver’s license.
