Republic Services Sr Manager Total Rewards - Canada (Remote) in Blainville, Quebec

100% remote option will be considered.

POSITION SUMMARY : The Senior Manager, Total Rewards (Canada) is responsible for the design, implementation, administration and oversight of Company-wide compensation and employee benefits plans (health & welfare and retirement) in the Canadian market. The Senior Manager, Total Rewards participates in the development of the overall total rewards strategy which includes, but is not limited to, supporting the HR leadership in the development of benefits & compensation program strategies that support employee attraction and retention while effectively managing fiscal resources.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Manages and directs the administration of certain employee benefit programs (health & welfare and retirement).

  • Recommends additions and changes to the total compensation and benefits packages to optimize employee experience, costs and value-add impact.

  • Provides compensation expertise to the Company regarding short- and long-term incentive programs, equity plan administration, deferred compensation administration, market data, and trends.

  • Conducts job analyses and evaluations to ensure all compensation packages are in conformity with provincial and national laws, policies and procedures.

  • Partners with the Total Rewards department leadership and business leaders to ensure Canadian plans support the business strategies, while maintaining competitive and cost effective Total Rewards programs.

  • Reviews, harmonizes and redesigns, when necessary, the compensation and benefits program as part of acquisition mandates and supports due diligence activities.

  • Works closely with Total Rewards leadership to establish annual benefits budget, tracks, analyzes and reports on monthly spend.

  • Develops a benefits communication strategy and executes to effectively relay and notify employees of benefits information. This includes communicating plans and programs through organizational announcement materials, summary plan documents (SPDs), newsletters, and other media / communication vehicles. Ensures compliance with regulatory bodies.

  • Ensures compliance with Canadian employment standards and regulatory requirements ensuring the effective and consistent application and administration of related to compensation and benefit plans. Assesses impact of regulatory changes on programs, and recommends and implements any necessary modifications.

  • Acts as the project manager to lead and direct organizational critical and complex benefits and compensation projects. Ensures that projects remain on track and focused on execution of initiatives.

  • Participates in vendor selection for benefit and compensation vendors. Establishes and maintains a strong partnership and working relationship with vendors to ensure their level of service is delivered to Republic’s expectations.

  • Participates in negotiation of agreements with insurance carriers and financial institutions for administration of benefits programs.

  • Ensures that required records and reports are maintained and issued.

  • Provides data, periodic reports, audits and recommendations to internal stakeholders regarding global compensation.

  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned or apparent.

QUALIFICATIONS :

  • Hands on experience in the design of Canadian total rewards programs and systems, understanding design principles, compliance requirements, accounting/tax/financial implications and best practices.

  • Experience with collectively bargained benefit plans.

  • Excellent project management abilities (capacity to lead national mandates).

  • Ability to think strategically, and objectively and experience developing and implementing large scale projects and change initiatives.

  • Experience implementing new programs and educating key concepts in Total Rewards within HR and with the business is considered an asset.

  • Ability to work cooperatively, effectively and efficiently with senior internal and external collaborators. Leadership skills balanced with a hands-on role.

  • Strong financial, data analysis and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify trends, propose data-driven solutions and to translate technical analysis into presentations.

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to draft and review communication materials that effectively convey complex information to various stakeholders.

  • Ability to be resourceful, proactive and anticipate needs.

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines.

  • HRIS and Payroll system knowledge.

  • Benefits certification (such as CEBS, ASPPA or equivalent) or Certified Compensation Professional certification (CCP) would be an asset.

  • Strong bilingual (French and English) written and verbal communications skills.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in Canadian Benefits and/or Compensation, or related field at a progressively responsible level.
